The Examples

(later known as XYZ)

I recall little of this "competitor" band to my own Off the Record except they were very talented.  Greg Demerjian sang in a Morrison-esque brood, Todd Leinbach played guitar, Josh Margolis played drums, and Todd Colyer played bass.

I recall being impressed with their rendition of Joe Jackson's "Pretty Women" and the Police's "Message in a Bottle".   They were popular with the artsy and cosmopolitan set ... perhaps the "Bleacher Creatures" as the smokers were known as they were relegated to that one place on campus where smoking was permitted.

I recall that the Colyer was a fifth former (a junior) and that Josh was the best drummer on campus.  They may have been best at all positions (except that no one could touch Andy Hyra on vocals).  This photo from the Choate yearbook for the Class of 1982 shows them in their glory, playing in the dining hall in Hill House.
